Mercy Hospital opened a mobile nursing room near the emergency room

Springfield, Missouri (KY3)-Mercy Hospital opened a new mobile device outside the emergency room to care for patients with flu or COVID-19 symptoms.

The mobile unit was opened for patients on Tuesday, and the hospital told KY3 that it can not only help increase capacity, but also prevent possible COVID-19 patients from infecting patients and staff in the hospital.

“It’s not a different level of care, it just adds extra service capacity for us now,” said Vicki Good, director of the emergency department at Mercy Springfield.

KY3 is not allowed to be used in Mercy Hospital’s new mobile device, but the hospital did provide us with a video and took a look at what can be done inside.

Goode said: “The emergency room doctors and emergency room staff saw these patients there, and they were able to treat them like IV treatment and low flow oxygen in order to send them home.”

She said that patients can also perform X-ray examinations inside the device. Goode also said that due to the severity of symptoms, some patients may still receive care in the regular emergency room.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the hospital had 84 COVID-19 patients, while CoxHealth had 89.

“The main question everyone thinks about now is what this winter will look like with the arrival of the COIVD-19 flu season, so this is just one of the ways we are prepared to serve the community. If we should let these patients influx ,” Goode said.

The new department of compassion should be able to take care of 15 to 20 people. In Cox South, staff began construction of a 16-patient mobile unit, which should open in early November.

Goode Goode said that the additional options will enable them to help patients more quickly and should reassure patients.

“Many people are afraid to come to the hospital to seek treatment, such as heart attack and stroke, but they are afraid because they don’t want to get COVID-19, so they are provided with more security for seeking treatment,” she said.

Mercy does not keep mobile devices open 24 hours a day, but will keep them open based on the number of patients.
