The mass shooting at a family gathering in North Carolina killed 3 people and injured 4 others. This is the latest in a series of fatal shootings that shocked the United States.
The Wilmington Police Department said they are investigating the shooting, which occurred shortly after midnight on Friday night.
After the police responded to the scene, they discovered, “During a family gathering, a gun battle took place in a house. Seven people were attacked by gunfire.”
“Three of the seven people died. The remaining four victims are being treated at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center.”
The police are still notifying the families of the victims and confirming to Hill that they currently have no suspects in the shooting.
The department wrote on social media: “We are wholeheartedly affected by this meaningless act of violence, and we ask anyone who understands this incident to stand up so that we can find justice.”
On Saturday alone, there were at least two shootings in North Carolina. Three people were also killed early on Saturday morning after the shooting in Maryland.
The shooting occurred after other incidents in California, Colorado and Georgia in recent days. On Wednesday, in Orange, California, 4 people including a 9-year-old were killed, and 10 people were killed in a mass shooting at a supermarket in Boulder, Colorado.
On March 16, 8 people were killed in a mass shooting in a hot spring bath in the Atlanta area. Six of the eight dead were women of Asian descent.
The Congressional Research Service defines a mass shooting as an incident involving four or more victims.
