Kanye West is building a new city in Haiti

The newest joint venture in the West is in the Caribbean. In the past few years, Haiti has suffered the brunt of earthquakes, hurricanes and other natural disasters, and it remains one of the poorest countries on earth.

In the latest appearance of Joe Rogan’s podcast, West discussed his recent trip to Haiti and his latest project: creating a brand new, state-of-the-art city. President Jovenel Moïse gave West an island to develop his project. After his appearance, he went to Twitter to clarify the details of the transaction.

West said: “Just clarify: we are working with the Haitian government to make a transformational investment to attract jobs, develop, help local farmers and fisheries, and build a new “future” in a very beautiful country. City”.

Kanye West has done charity work in the past

Although West’s announcement seems a bit dated, this is not the first time West has used its platform and resources to help those in need.

After the unexpected death of his mother in 2007, West collaborated with rapper Rhymefest to create Donda’s House, a charity organization that commemorates West’s mother’s education. But West gradually reduced its ties with the organization, and after a controversial public quarrel with Kardashian West in 2018, the organization changed its name to Arts and Culture and kept its distance from the rapper.

In 2019, West, in the name of Kardashian West, donated $1 million to organizations committed to prison reform, including Cut 50, the Buried Alive Project, and the Equal Justice Initiative ( Equal Justice Initiative and Anti-Recidivism Coalition.

Kanye West is not the only musician to build a new city

Although West’s announcement of his “city of the future” in Haiti seems to be the first case, another artist has been making the same plan for some time. In 2018, Senegalese American singer Akon announced that he would build his future city in Senegal.

The city will be located in Mbodiène, approximately 75 miles from the capital Dakar and only a few minutes from the international airport. Akon has been increasingly involved in the cryptocurrency field, and he announced that Akon City will be run entirely based on the artist’s unique cryptocurrency AKOIN.

At the beginning of 2020, he confirmed that he had completed the plan with the Senegalese government and received US$6 billion (about one-third of the necessary funds) to start work on the project. In September, he issued a statement describing his mission to the city: to provide “hometown homes” for displaced blacks who have been treated unfairly by the country in which they live.

“The home system treats them unfairly in many different ways that you can’t imagine. They experienced it because they felt they had no choice,” he said. “Therefore, if you are from the United States, Europe or elsewhere overseas, and you want to visit Africa, we hope Senegal will be your first stop.”

The locals are excited about the start of the project and hope that the project will revitalize the area. “We are full of hope,” said Michel Diom, the mayor of Mbodiène. “Many people promised us the project, but we didn’t see anything.”
