Japan will ban foreigners from entering the country after Covid-19 variants are discovered

The Japanese public broadcaster NHK stated that Japanese citizens and foreign residents can still enter, but must self-check for 14 days.

Prior to this, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government confirmed two new Covid-19 variant cases on Saturday involving people who have recently returned from the UK.

The two new cases were first detected outside the country’s airport quarantine area.

Last Friday, another five passengers from the United Kingdom were spotted at Japan’s international airport and they discovered this variant.

It is said that this new variant of the coronavirus originated in the United Kingdom and may spread more easily. Since its discovery, more than 40 countries/regions have restricted travel from the United Kingdom, and in some cases, travel from other countries/regions has recorded cases of this variant.
For example, starting from Monday, the United States will require all passengers from the United Kingdom to undergo a negative Covid-1
9 test within 72 hours of boarding a flight to the United States. Passengers will also be asked to provide documentation of their laboratory results.

Countries such as Denmark, Ecuador, Greece, Portugal, Spain and Ukraine have announced varying degrees of restrictions. There are also countries that prohibit travel or suspend flights from the UK, such as Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Germany, India, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia and Spain.

Other countries/regions extend travel bans or restrictions to other countries/regions where the variant has been found, such as Denmark, the Netherlands, and Australia. According to Maria van Kerkhove of the World Health Organization, many countries also impose restrictions on travel from South Africa. According to reports, South Africa travels differently.
