The country said it will skip the Olympics this summer to “protect athletes from the global public health crisis triggered by Covid-19.”
According to the North Korean Sports Report, the North Korean Olympic Committee made this decision. The North Korean Olympic Committee held a video conference with committee members and sports officials in the capital Pyongyang on March 25.
The Olympic Games are currently scheduled to be held from July 23 to August 8. The Paralympics will be held from August 24 to September 5.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, organizers were forced to postpone the Olympic Games for the first time in the history of the March 2020 event.
The Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee stated last month that international audiences will be denied entry to Japan due to the coronavirus epidemic in Japan and abroad.
