Iran arrested “Israeli spies” in eastern Azerbaijan

Iranian state media reported on Monday that Iran had arrested an “Israeli spy” and many others who had links with foreign intelligence agencies, but did not provide the nationality of the arrested person.

Quoting an official from the Ministry of Intelligence, “An Israeli spy was arrested in Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province… and other spies who had connections with the intelligence agencies of several other countries were also arrested.”

Israeli officials did not immediately comment on the report.

The Islamic Republic does not recognize Israel and accuses Israel of deliberately sabotaging and assassinating nuclear scientists.

An Iranian who engaged in espionage activities for espionage was executed in 2020.

Iran condemned Israel for killing Mohsen Fakhrizadeh last year, which Western intelligence services regarded as the mastermind of the secret Iranian nuclear weapons program.

Tehran denies seeking to establish a nuclear arsenal. Israel neither confirmed nor denied responsibility for the killing.
