IKEA and Sonos began to tease the next product developed by the two companies. The furniture giant posted an Instagram story today that directly mentions the words “Symfonisk” and flashes the Sonos logo at the end, so there is no doubt that the new hardware is about to come out. Two new documents have just appeared in the Federal Communications Commission.
edge You can share the details of upcoming events exclusively. The first new product covered in this document is an improved version of the Symfonisk table lamp. It is expected to be sold at the same price ($1
But from what edge It is understood that the $99 Symfonisk bookshelf speaker is the most economical gateway to the Sonos platform and does not require any major updates. Instead, the second product that IKEA and Sonos will release in 2021 is brand new: a wall decoration with integrated speakers.
Companies such as Soundwall have produced art speakers before, but it is safe to assume that the target prices of IKEA and Sonos are much lower than those of expensive products.
edge We have seen early pictures of this product code-named “Titan”, but we are not yet able to learn more about its features. Specifically, it is currently unclear whether the print of the entire artwork is a product or whether the speaker unit can be transferred between different external artwork enclosures. One of the two new FCC applications submitted by IKEA and Sonos is for “wireless modules.” From a distance, it looks like any mural from IKEA, but there is more technology on the other side (the power cord runs down from the bottom).
So far, all Symfonisk products have been designed with a dual purpose in mind. The lamp combines a speaker and a light source. When the bookshelf speakers are installed on the wall, they can actually be used as a shelf. And they should also be integrated into home decoration. From this perspective, the combination of artistic works and musical speakers seems to be a natural development of the Symfonisk series.
I have heard the voices of many Sonos customers who use Symfonisk bookshelf speakers as the back surround sound for Sonos Arc and Beam sound bars. They can do this well, but a pair of stereo wall-mounted art speakers can make the installation of a home theater more stylish.
IKEA and Sonos have not yet revealed exactly when they plan to announce their latest collaboration results. edge Sonos has been contacted for comment. In the near future, Sonos is preparing for the launch of the new Sonos Roam, which was originally developed by edge, The product will start shipping on April 20.
