Hulu gives users much better control over referrals and watches history

Hulu launches its mobile app update next week. The update gives subscribers better control over how the streaming service presents recommendations and recommended broadcasts. Users will be able to tell Hulu to stop suggesting content they are not interested in. "You'll be able to tell us when our recommendations in your home experience will not hit the mark," said Richard Irving, Hulus VP of Product, in a blog post. "If you choose this action, you will prevent the series, the film, or the sports league from being recommended to you again."

If you want to go one step further, you can now remove items from your ad history, too. When this happens, Hulus' recommendation engine will basically forget that you ̵

1; or "someone using your profile" – has ever watched the program or movie in question. Netflix already has this feature (which I somehow never realized), so it's nice to see Hulu implement it. You can remove shows when they appear in the Home tab or directly in the Watch History section under Watch.

Hulu also adds a portrait player, so you do not always have to look at the service in the landscape. The app now supports HDMI output for iOS devices and provides an "improved" Chromecast experience.

There are also some improvements for Hulu's live TV clients. In his mobile apps, Hulu introduces a new icon in the main navigation bar that instantly puts you on TV for the last channel you've been to. The straightforward, more traditional program guide already available on Hulus TV apps is now coming to smartphones. The company also announces that it will provide the revised desktop web experience for all Live TV subscribers in the coming week. the rest of Hulus subscribers will get it over the summer.
