During the setup process, you will be asked to turn on features such as SOS and automatic watchOS updates. It is a good idea to enable these two features at the same time. With SOS, you can press and hold the crown of the watch until you hear the alarm and see the countdown, so as to quickly call the local emergency responders. If your watch is not a phone model, please remember that your phone must be nearby to make calls from your wrist.
You can also activate “fall detection”
Health and fitness settings
Enabling automatic updates will ensure you have the latest features and security fixes. For example, with the latest version of watchOS, you will be able to access Apple’s new Fitness+ video service. You can get a three-month free trial version of Watch for free, and it’s worth a try, especially for beginners. Exercise is easy, the instructors are very friendly, and Apple Watch integration is excellent.
One of the best things about Apple Watch (and smart watches in general) is that they can keep an eye on our health and activities. During the setup process, you will be prompted to select an activity goal. At this stage, Apple’s recommendations can be used, such as a 30-minute daily exercise and a 10-hour standing goal (or a rolling goal for wheelchair users). As you begin to better understand your body and preferences, you are likely to adjust them over time. To adjust these settings, in the “Fitness” app on your watch, swipe all the way to the bottom of the “Summary” page and select “Change Goal.”
If you need extra power to close the ring, you can also make a reminder of too long idle time to get up and walk around. Even better, add some friends (if they are Apple’s companions) to send and receive alerts after someone finishes a workout. This adds a bit of competitiveness, makes people feel inward, and opens up the possibility of bragging rights. If that is not attractive, you can simply disable these features.
For those who exercise regularly, when the watch detects your heart rate and exercise changes, it is recommended that you start or end your exercise. Turning on the start/end exercise reminder can help ensure that your exercise is recorded. This is a workaround, not proper automatic motion detection, but it can still help you stay accountable. Enable these reminders by going to the “Workout” section of the “Watch” app on your phone. You can also get advice and conduct guided breathing exercises throughout the day to help you land.
Another important factor of happiness is the amount of sleep. Apple uses watchOS 7 to add sleep tracking to its wearable devices to help you understand your sleep. Although other devices such as Fitbits and Samsung watches do a better job of automatically detecting when you fall asleep and analyzing your sleeping area, Apple Watch can still help you understand how you sleep.
Make sure to set the bedtime, wake-up time, and target sleep time. If you don’t have enough time before the morning alarm, Apple will advise you to get down earlier. Setting your sleep schedule is important because at least during our testing, the watch seems to use this information like a watch to detect when you go to bed. Currently, automatic sleep detection is not the most advanced method, but it may be helpful to prompt you to go to bed.
If you are in bed with your partner or have poor hearing, you can also activate a vibration alarm (by turning on silent mode). If you want to take off your watch while you sleep, enabling the bedside table mode (“Watch” app> “General”> “Bedside table mode”) will turn the device into a bedside clock. It will dim the screen in most cases, but if you need to see the time, you only need to nudge the device (or even the table) and the display will wake up.
Finally, make sure you follow the recommended hand washing guidelines. The watch can also help you stay healthy. Whenever the watch thinks you are cleaning your hands for 5 seconds, turning on the hand wash timer will start a 15-second countdown. It is not always useful, because sometimes you just remove some dirt and don’t need to foam within 20 seconds, but it is not too troublesome and useful when you travel.
