Honor releases its first Huawei phone

Honor has announced the new V40 5G flagship phone, which is the first phone since Huawei sold the company to a consortium of Chinese partners headquartered in Shenzhen. This phone is currently only sold exclusively in China, but Honor’s V series usually enter the rest of the world under the “View” brand.

The V40 has a 6.72-inch OLED screen with a refresh rate of 120Hz and is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ processor. The main camera has a 1 / 1.56 inch 50 megapixel sensor. The 4,000mAh battery can be charged wirelessly at 50W or 66W via a cable.

Huawei announced that it will sell Honor in November due to “huge pressure”

; and difficulty in ensuring an adequate supply chain. Although Honor operates independently of Huawei, most of its technology relies on the parent company, such as HiSense’s Kirin processor. This means that it has been hit hard by the US sanctions that prohibit US companies from doing business with Huawei.

Of course, the V40 mobile phone will be developed from the beginning of November, but since Huawei has given up its glory, the international “View 40” version of V40 may be used in Google services. In this way, Honor can sell mobile phones in Western markets and other regions without having to face the huge disadvantages brought by Huawei’s AppGallery, and AppGallery still cannot compete with Google Play stores outside of China where there is no Google.

At the same time, Honor no longer has the advantage of relying on Huawei’s supply chain, so once the phone is launched elsewhere, it will need to do some work to make itself a strong brand. Currently, its price in China is 3599 yuan (~$550), and the model is 8GB RAM and 128GB. 3,999 yuan (~$620) doubles the storage capacity to 256GB.
