Halloween brings a spooky blue moon

Blaine, Texas (KBTX)-Pumpkins not only glow orange on Halloween night. The full moon will rise in the night sky and show a bright orange. This is the second full moon in October. The first full moon in October is the harvest month on the 1st.

When two full moons set within one month, they are called “blue moons”. The blue moon occurs on average every two to three years, and the last blue moon occurred on March 31, 2018. The next blue moon will occur on August 22, 2021.

Even more rare is the second full moon on Halloween. On average, the Halloween blue moon appears every 1

9 years, but there are some exceptions. The last Halloween blue moon was in 2001. The full moon on October 31 will occur at 9:49 AM this year, but it will not rise in our night sky until 6:58 PM in the evening.

If you want to go out to watch this rare event, then the only thing you have to contend with is a few wisps of high clouds drifting across Brazos Valley on Halloween night. Otherwise, the viewing effect should be great! When the moon rises above the horizon in the evening, enjoy the ghostly orange light, because the next Halloween blue moon will not appear until 2039.
