Girl Scouts honor two sisters by accumulating money for something they would have loved



WEST SACRAMENTO – A scout troop announced that the money they were selling with biscuits was dedicated to the memory of two West Sacramento sisters who were murdered by their father in January. The money is for something that Sara and Sophia Rouin's Girl Scouts know they loved.

Amy Hunter, still afflicted by the loss of her daughters, says, "There are good days and bad days." Feels like her spirits are always with her.

Sophia and Sara Rouin were only 12 and 9 years old when they were killed.

A loss that has hit her Scout troop hard.

"She always kept us on the right path Whither Sophia went, Sara went and she brought happiness everywhere," said the Girl Scout, Aisha Lemseffer and Mariam Syed.

"She was really nice and she tried to make everyone happy, she just wanted to make the world a better place for everyone," said Celine Puka of Sara.

In the months she grieved for her friends, the Boy Scout troop decided to take action.

"We wanted to do something to remember because they were such a big part of our lives," said Lemseffer and Syed.

Scout leader Erum Syed stated, "One after the other, the ideas flowed."

The money they collected The sale of scout biscuits for girls would lead to a playground built in the Islamic center of Salam in Sacramento would.

"We said this had to be a big control ceremony, we knew we had to mark the occasion, and we knew it was going to happen on a grand scale," said Erum Syed.

On Saturday they held the ceremony and handed over a check for $ 3,600.

"The project of a playground is just something that both were so passionate about," said Hunter.

Hunter is touched by the gesture of building something her daughters took care of.
