49ersr coach Kyle Shanahan said on Monday that he expects Jimmy Gallopolo to become the team’s starting quarterback in 2021.
A day later, the tough George Kittle provided support for the 49ers next season.
“In the end, I played very tight here, I just worked here, but I think I do have a little voice, I have said many times that I only like playing football with Jimmy G,” Kittel via NBCSportsBayArea.com Tell KNBR. “Our team is different when we are with him. That’s why it’s fun to play football with him, because I think when we are both on the football field, we both have a big change in shrinkage.
“As for what the leader Jimmy G is, I still can’t say clearly, how his presence changes the feeling of the team, how the team conducts business and how the team practices every day. Jimmy G is our quarterback, forward Going forward, he is our quarterback, that’s what I really want to say. I want to go with the guy who took us to the Super Bowl and played high-quality all year round. That’s my case for Jimmy G, I think This is a good case.”
Shanahan does not rule out the introduction of a quarterback. Backup CJ Beathard and Nick Mullens plan to become free agents in the offseason. Last week, the 49ers signed the former first-round pick Josh Rosen from the Buccaneers’ practice lineup.
In the past offseason, the 49ers flirted with Tom Brady. Will they consider acquiring Matthew Stafford, Matt Ryan, Mitchell Trubisky or drafting Zach Wilson or Trey Lance?
