Authorities say Christopher Pekny, a 28-year-old New York father, died after a device made for the child’s gender reveal party exploded.
New York State Police responded to a report of a residential explosion in Liberty Town at 11:55 am Sunday. Authorities said that the gender revealing device Pekney was building exploded, killing him and wounding his 27-year-old brother Michael Pekney.
The national police and the bomb disposal department are investigating the matter.
The authorities did not specify what equipment Parkney is making for the party. A spokesperson for the New York State Police told BuzzFeed News on Monday: “There are currently no charges.”
This is not the first time that a family has revealed gender.
In September last year, a firefighter in California fought a fire that was triggered by a pyrotechnic device used by a family during a gender public event. The Eldorado fire destroyed more than 19,000 acres, destroyed houses, and forced hundreds of people to flee their homes.
And in 2019, a 56-year-old grandmother was killed when her family’s bomb exploded, when her bomb exploded while planning a gender survey activity. A family gathers at home to try various types of explosives so that they can shoot announcements on social media.
