The Mac and iOS calendar app Fantastical has updated its software with 12 new customizable widgets. They look like the perfect use case supported by iOS 14 widgets, allowing users to access their calendar, events and weather forecast directly from the home screen.
Of course, these are not widgets that you can use flexibly on TikTok: these are practical and straightforward designs for people who live in their schedules. The appearance design of these widgets is as expected by Fantastical, and we particularly like the option of attending the meeting directly. No need to search for that elusive Zoom invitation in your inbox.
It is assumed that Fantastical’s widgets are free to use, but unless you are a paying customer, some features (such as quick-join meetings and multiple calendar sets) will not be available. The app has switched to a subscription model earlier this year, with a rolling fee of $4.99 per month, or $3.33 per month if you commit to an annual subscription. The Fantastical update also adds support for handwriting recognition on iPadOS 14.
Although widgets have a long history on mobile devices, it turns out that widgets are the breakthrough star of iOS 14. This is due to the fact that people have been putting them on weird use cases: creating themed layouts for favorite bands, anime, etc. Widgets and custom application icons (created through suboptimal “shortcut” hacks) have attracted widespread popularity, and many believe that Apple should provide greater support for customization, although this is unlikely to happen.
