CHICAGO-The Chicago White Sox have rejected the $12 million option of designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion and the $7 million option of left-hander Gio Gonzalez right.
The team announced the move on Friday, making the two players free agents. Encarnacion’s transaction does not include a buyout, and Gonzalez will receive $500,000.
The team also exercised a $3.5 million option against the utility Leury Garcia, restored right-handed Michael Kopech from the restricted list, and activated right-handed Jimmy Lambert from the 60-day injury list. The club lost infielder Jolmo Sanchez in abandoning the game against the Baltimore Orioles.
