At the beginning of December, the Google Play Music website and mobile application officially ceased to be used by all users worldwide. It marks the biggest milestone in the transition to YouTube Music, but there is one final step. Today (December 31) should be the last day to transfer your Play music library to an alternative YouTube service or download using Google Takeout.
Transfer or download your Play music library
Visiting music.google.com or Android and iOS apps today will provide a “transfer to YouTube music”
In addition, you can also “manage music” by deleting the music library and/or recommendation history. The third option is to use Google Takeout to download the music library:
Tracks, playlists, radio stations, uploaded and purchased lists in the Google Play music library, as well as playback and search history.
Playlists, radio stations and track information will be provided in CSV format, while your previous upload content and content purchased by Google Play will be provided as MP3 files. You can choose to receive the download link via email for local storage, or you can save it to Google Drive, Dropbox, Microsoft OneDrive or Box. This will allow you to store the audio locally or switch to another music application.
Play music transfer deadline
As early as August, Google said that within a short period of time after the application was closed, your Play music library could be downloaded or transferred.
But please rest assured, we will keep your playlists, uploads, purchases, likes and other content until December 2020, so that you can easily transfer to YouTube Music. Users who wish to transfer their music library from Google Play Music to YouTube Music can complete this operation before December 2020, after which their Google Play music library will no longer be available.
However, according to Google’s original schedule, the deadline for performing any of the above operations should be December 31, and YouTube did not provide other guidance. After that, the company plans to automatically delete all Play Music user data.
There may be a grace period before the two export options become impossible by deletion. For example, other parts of Play Music (desktop music manager application, Play Music Store, assistant speaker integration) have gradually been abandoned. But for safety, Google Play Music users should download or transfer it immediately.
