Donald Glover, who plays in Solo: A Star Wars Story as a younger but equally good-natured Lando Calrissian, said if Lando ever came back to the screens, he had to play him.
"When I heard that they were doing this, I told my agent, 'If they do anything with Lando, I have to be Lando', Glover told the press during a solo Press Conference Saturday.
"And he was like," I hear you, I do not like your chances, "Glover said. "That was exactly what I needed to hear, I really auditioned as if it was the only role I wanted to play in the world, that's really it."
Glover's dad was a fan of the character, as well the then 7-year-old future actor, who compared the role to entering the Bible.
"It feels like I'm getting something original, but also something as old as time," Glover told The Hollywood Reporter . "I'm very happy to be part of it, I grew up with it, it's the first toy I've ever had, so I did not take that role lightly, I'm a fan, first and foremost, before I'm an actor in it. "
Glover has since praised praise for his turn as the decent player who was first portrayed by Billy Dee Williams in the 1
The 34-year-old actor texted Williams after the world premiere on Thursday to find out what he thought of Star Wars Prequel Williams' Praise
"He said, & # 39; You did a good job & that was all I wanted, that was all I needed, "Glover told in an exclusive interview ComicBook.com .
"It definitely made me feel like I did not let him down, which was nice," Glover said. "He did such a good job, he's such an icon in the first one, in Empire Strikes Back so I did not want to abandon him."
Asked by ComicBook.com If he would repeat the role in possible sequels, Glover said, "Oh, yes, absolutely, yes."
Performers Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Emilia Clarke, Joonas Suotamo, Thandie Newton, Paul Bettany and Woody Harrelson, Solo: A Star Wars Story begins on May 25th.
