According to a post on the FDNY Instagram account, 20-pound steel cylinders were stacked from floor to ceiling in a refrigeration unit in a building on Nevins Street in Gowanus.
The fire inspector asked the local firefighter to respond and check for leaks.
FDNY said that the building’s manager, Mohamed Mohamed, admitted to ordering the propane tank and selling it to another person in order to resell it to restaurants and businesses that require heating for outdoor dining.
He was arrested and charged with a risk of recklessness.
