Although some people struggle to adapt to this new work model, others gradually realize that their job requirements can be done anywhere and begin to explore their options.
As a result, many foreign destinations, whose tourism income has almost disappeared in the past few months, have used this situation to their advantage by extending visas to workers in remote areas to inject capital into their economies.
From Anguilla to Barbados, here are the five most attractive destinations currently attracting remote workers.
Anguilla launched a plan to allow workers in remote areas to spend three months to one year on the island.

Aruba’s “One Happy Job” program is only open to people with valid U.S. passports.

The newly launched program is open to anyone holding a valid U.S. passport, allowing workers to live and work in Aruba for up to 90 days, while offering special rates for a range of hotels and resorts, as well as free Wi-Fi and Including meals, discounts and experiential additional content.
Although the program does not charge any fees, the program aims to “create income for Aruba businesses and help local economic development”, but candidates must book at least one of the accommodation packages for at least 7 days to qualify. After the pandemic, Barbados was one of the first Caribbean destinations to launch attractive programs for workers in remote areas.
Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley said in a statement: “As more and more people continue to work from home, Covid-19 has changed the global business landscape.”
“With this new visa, we can provide workers with an opportunity to work outside of Paradise in Barbados for the next 12 months.”
The plan is aimed at “anyone who has nothing to do with the place of work”, and applicants can choose to relocate with their families.
Interested applicants will need to fill out an online application form and provide proof of employment, and declare at least $50,000 in income each year during their stay on the island.
Individuals need to pay US$2,000 and families need to pay US$3,000. This fee is non-refundable and must be paid once the application is approved.
Those who are accepted will not be liable for Barbados income tax, and workers who wish to stay longer than 12 months can apply for renewal.
