Following the death of a famous fan in Alabama, the Marion County Health Department is investigating whether anyone who participated in the NCAA tournament in Indianapolis last weekend was exposed to the coronavirus by any Alabama resident.
Tuscaloosa News reported that Luke Ratliff, a 23-year-old student from Alabama, died Friday from complications related to COVID-19. The newspaper reported that he participated in the Alabama game against UCLA at Hinklfield House last weekend and returned to Tuscaloosa shortly afterwards. Ratliff was hospitalized with illness earlier this week. He is a well-known Fluffopotamus fan, his plaid jacket this season is familiar to many people, and is the leader of the Crimson Chaos basketball campus support group.
The Marion County Department of Public Health confirmed to ESPN in a statement on Saturday that it had contacted the Alabama Department of Public Health.
