Some people would say that the defensive tackle Dontari Poe was blocked the moment he bent his knees in the national anthem. Regardless, he went out. The same is true for cornerback Daryl Wallley.

NFL Media reported that the Cowboys will also lay off staff after failing to find trading partners for Poe and Worley.

This will not save the Cowboys any money, because both parties can charge the balance of the basic salary ($2 million for Poe and $1.5 million for Worley) as severance pay. The only payment avoided will be the roster bonus for each player. If on the active roster, both of them will be eligible for the bonus-Poe $62,500 per game, Worley $31,250 per game.

A source explained that the cowboys just wanted to drive them out of the building because they did not do well.

Therefore, now that they are free agents, they can keep any money they make elsewhere and get the balance of the 2020 basic salary from the Cowboys.

The final cost (assuming both parties charge severance fees) will be based on the Cowboys’ signing bonuses for the first seven games of the season, base salary and active roster bonuses to pay the Cowboys $6.656 million.
