In the case of a surge in cases, Pence urged Americans to wear masks and social distance
Vice President Pence on Sunday urged Americans to put on masks, isolate them from society, and stay away from the elderly to protect the new peak of coronavirus infection, because more than 2.5 million cases have been diagnosed in the United States.
At an event in Dallas, Pence praised Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) for reopening the state’s economy in early May. But because state hospitals caused a surge in patients as infection rates soared, Pence praised Abbott for curtailing some reopening measures, including orders to close bars and restaurants to reduce occupancy.
The virus has killed more than 1
23,000 people in the United States, and American cases are by far the largest share of total cases worldwide. In Texas, coronavirus-related hospitalizations reached a record high for the 16th consecutive day on Saturday, treating a total of 5,523 patients.
