Coronavirus pandemic: Even as COVID hospitalizations decline, MIS-C cases in Los Angeles County are on the rise

Los Angeles (KABC)-As the number of hospitalizations for the coronavirus in Los Angeles County is declining, health officials are turning their attention to the impact of COVID-19 on children.

As schools are getting closer to reopening for face-to-face teaching, there are now more than 100 cases of systemic inflammatory syndrome, a serious illness related to the coronavirus.

This figure shows that MIS-C cases have increased by 77% in the past month. Officials suspect this is related to the surge caused by holiday activities.

The head of the Los Angeles Unified School District, Austin Beutner, said the campus may reopen before April 9, depending on the availability of vaccines.

Officials said that starting Monday, California will allocate 1

0% of the first batch of COVID-19 vaccines to teachers and support staff.
