San Antonio – San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff briefed the community on the local response to COVID-19 in their daily briefing on Wednesday night.
Nirenberg reported that in Bixas County, there were a total of 138,785 COVID-19 cases and 1,895 deaths. As of Tuesday, the number of new cases had increased by 1,378. Nirenberg also confirmed 25 deaths related to the virus.
Nirenberg called for silence to commemorate those who died from the virus.

City officials also reported that 1,411 patients were hospitalized, 393 patients were in the intensive care unit, and 237 were on ventilators. There are 12% staff beds and 51% ventilators.
With the high hospitalization rate, officials expect that as the pandemic intensifies, more people will die from the virus.
Nirenberg said that there were 168 hospital admissions related to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.
