Colorado officials suspect they have found a second variant of the British coronavirus

The announcement came a day after Elbert County, Colorado, announced the first known variant in the United States.

Dwayne Smith, the county health director, told CNN that both the confirmed and suspected cases involve people working in a living facility assisted by the Good Samaritan Association. Located in Shimla, about 45 miles northeast of Colorado Springs.

Smith said that none of the residents of Ebert County are, and they are also isolated outside the county. He said that “there is no indication at the moment” that the incident has gone beyond the facility and entered the larger community.

Colorado Governor Jared Polis said Tuesday that the first patient had no travel history. William Haseltine, chairman and president of ACCESS Health International, a global health think tank, told CNN on Wednesday that part of the reason is that the variant is likely to spread in the community.

The variant appeared in the UK in September, and US health officials recently stated that because the variant is popular in the UK, it is likely to have appeared in the US.

The state health department has communicated with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on these two situations. He said that Smith did not know when the variant could be confirmed or excluded in the second person. He could not comment on the travel history of the two men and said that the national health department notified the two men to the county on Tuesday afternoon.

Smith said: “There are two people working in the factory in non-clinical roles.” “Because of the previous Covid-1

9 outbreak in the factory, there was a shortage of personnel, so they are working in the factory,” Smith said. “The state health department has deployed a rapid response team in an assisted living facility in Shimla to test residents and staff.”

CNN has solicited the opinion of the Good Samaritan Association.

Smith said that the Good Samaritan Association had a Covid-19 outbreak in the past two and a half weeks and at least two people died, namely a 93-year-old male and an 88-year-old female. He said that the third death is under investigation. The facility is the residence of approximately 25 residents.

Scientists who advise the British government estimate that the spread of this variant may be 70% higher than other variants. Peter Horby, chair of the UK’s New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats Advisory Group, said last week that scientists are confident that the new variant will spread “faster than other virus variants.”

Health authorities from around the world said that although the British variant is considered more easily spread, it appears to be more lethal than the previously identified Covid-19 strain. Many countries have banned flights from the United Kingdom, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently announced that starting from the past 72 hours, passengers flying from London to the United States will be required to undergo a negative coronavirus test.
