Chocolate explosion in Poland: Tanker rolls over on the A2 motorway between Wrzesnia and Slupca

Poland is not land of chocolate, but motorists hit a chocolate-covered highway on Wednesday after a tanker crashed in the early morning.

The vehicle, carrying about 12 tons of chocolate, came to rest over the middle barrier, spilling its sweet fillings over six lanes of the A2 motorway and blocking traffic in both directions between the towns of Wrzesnia and Slupca in western Poland, Associated Press said and AFP. The driver was taken to hospital with a broken arm, but nobody was injured, TVN24 reported. It is not immediately unclear what has brought the truck to tip over.

A video from local media showed a loader who scooped up some of the brown goo. The liquid chocolate began to harden, which made cleaning difficult, local authorities said.

"The chilling chocolate is worse than snow," senior Brig. Bogdan Kowalski of Slupca's fire department said, according to the Associated Press. He added that before the highway was closed, some drivers who decided that a chocolate pool would not be an obstacle to their travels would distribute the chocolate for several miles.

The removal of the car and the chocolate would take a couple of hours, Marlena Kukawka, Slupca's police spokeswoman told The New York Times that this part of the A2 seldom experiences accidents.

You told TVN24 that the cleanup crew, which used hot water to melt and wash away the chocolate, was in a good mood, according to NPR. 19659009] "It's been a long time since I've seen so many faces on the face of rescue services and police at the scene of the accident," Kukawka said.

A local journalist was less fortunate. TVN24 reported that one of his reporters at the crime scene walked along the edge of the shoulder to prevent the chocolate from slipping and falling into a ditch where there was actually more chocolate.
