China's first self-built aircraft carrier begins trial runs

BEIJING (AP) – China's first fully-self-built aircraft carrier began testing floods on Sunday in the country.

The nameless ship docked at 7:00 am in Dalian North Harbor to "test the reliability and stability of its propulsion system and other systems," the Department of Defense said in a statement.

Liaoning Province Maritime Security Bureau issued a shipment order to avoid a stretch of the ocean southeast of the city between Sunday and Friday.

The 50,000 ton vehicle will probably be formally commissioned by 2020 after the completion of sea trials and the arrival of their full air force

The new vehicle is based on the Kuznetsov class design of the former Soviet Union, with a ski jump deck to the Take off and a conventional oil-fired steam turbine power plant.

China's first aircraft carrier, the Liaoning, arrived as a largely empty hull from the Ukraine and was taken in 2012 together with its airline of Chinese J-15 fighter aircraft in operation.

According to media reports, China also plans to build a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, which can stay at sea for a long time.

China has the largest navy in the world in terms of number of ships, although it has its technology and combat capabilities behind the US.

It was used to assert China's claim virtually the entire South China Sea, and increasingly extends into the Pacific and Indian Oceans. China set up its first overseas military base in the Horn of Africa, Djibouti, last year, with rivals such as the US, Japan and several European countries permanently present.
