Police said a child was shot in the head during an apparent road traffic accident on Chicago’s Lakeshore Boulevard.
Police Chief Jack Aldden said at a press conference that the shooting at around 11 am on Tuesday occurred after the incident “escalated to approximately two blocks after the shooting.”
The 21-month-old baby suffered a head injury and is receiving intensive care at Luli Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Marcelo Malakotti, deputy chief medical officer of the hospital and medical director of the pediatric intensive care unit, said in a statement: “We are doing everything we can for this little boy and thank everyone for their concern. “

The police said someone was being questioned, but no arrests have been announced yet.
Alderden said that it is not yet clear what triggered the incident.
He said at a press conference: “It seems that they are completely unknown to each other, and there may be a dispute with someone instead of letting someone into the driveway.”
Alderden said that a gun was found on someone in the car with the child, but the police did not know whether the gun had fired and was investigating.
Family members say that the toddler’s condition has improved, but he has not gotten out of the predicament, according to NBC Chicago.
