But Benjamin Kagan of the Chicago Vaccine Angels Association is getting rid of tedious work for those who don’t have the time, resources or computer expertise to determine the dose.
The 14-year-old tracked when and where the vaccine was provided and made appointments for people on the waiting list.
Kagan said: “I am very happy to be able to help people. I personally helped 115 people.”
When Kagan helped his grandparents living in Florida, he first discovered that he had a knack for using the vaccine system. During the winter vacation, he spent several hours remotely navigating various websites in the state, and finally got their appointment.
“I have been working hard,”
Then Kagan heard about an organization called “Vaccine Hunters”. He initially volunteered at the Chicago chapter, providing tips on how to locate the vaccine.
He said: “I started to receive all these private messages, saying Benjamin, we need help, Benjamin, I can’t book myself, Benjamin, please help me.”
Kagan created a spreadsheet that lists people who need to be vaccinated and people whose doses are increasing.
He said he found it by searching the websites of pharmacies and grocery stores, especially late at night. The database helped him set up his own group “Chicago Vaccine Angels.”
His mother Ali Kagan said: “He has a huge heart. “He is a child who has always been broad-minded and has a lot of time and love for his grandparents. I think this can be explained because He is aware of his hardships, especially for the elderly. “
It was also difficult for Ashley Novoa, her work in the community brought her into the shelter. She got the vaccine with Kagan’s help.
Novoa said: “We have these people stepping up, and then a teenager, they might be outside doing things with his friends. It’s amazing.”
Kagan said: “It is a satisfying feeling to be able to say that I helped this person. I may have saved their lives.”
Kagan said he only wanted to see a website listing all the locations and available times for vaccines in the area.
At the same time, he said that he would be happy to try his best to help.
