Charleston Airport officials get “full transparency” after suspicious package prompts to evacuate



Officials at Charleston International Airport said passengers could return to the airport after suspicious packages forced people to evacuate on Wednesday morning. Airport spokesman Spencer Pryor confirmed that shortly before 2 pm, passengers had obtained passes and could return to the airport. A suspicious package was found at approximately 11:15 am. Pryor said there was no explosive device in the package, but airport officials still did not provide detailed information on the contents of the package. Elliott Sumi, CEO of Charleston International Airport, said that TSA agents believed the package might be a “potential threat,” but did not elaborate. Sammy said that the bomb squad of the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office removed the package from the area. It is not clear where the package was taken or whether it has been destroyed.
