The developers of London-Cyberpunk 2077 are postponing the release of new content for the game to focus on fixing bugs and crashes.
Polish game developer and publisher CD Projekt released the highly anticipated science fiction epic last month. Publishing games that many fans and critics consider unfinished has been the target of intense criticism.
Cyberpunk is one of the hottest large budget video games of 2020. However, it is plagued by numerous bugs and performance drops on old game consoles (such as Sony̵
CD Projekt hopes to reassure fans with its promise of refunding and improving the game. But this has not stopped Sony from removing “cyberpunk” from its digital PlayStation store. Many industry analysts say this is unprecedented for winning a AAA championship.
Marcin Iwiński, co-founder of CD Projekt, apologized in a video posted to the game’s YouTube channel on Wednesday.
“Despite the positive reviews on PC, the console version of Cyberpunk 2077 did not meet the quality standards we hoped to achieve,” Iwiński said. “I and the entire leadership team apologize for this, and this video is publicly owned by me.”
He added: “Please don’t blame any of our teams for what happened.” “They are all very talented and hard working.
“The board of directors and I are the final decision makers. This is our call to release the game. Although, trust me, we never intended to happen like this.”
Iwiński explained that many of the problems with the game’s old hardware stem from its ambitions on the PC. He said that cyberpunk has a wide range, packaging “a large number of custom objects, interactive systems and mechanisms” into “a large city and in a relatively load-free environment.”
He added: “We want to make the game look like an epic game on the PC, and then adjust it to a console suitable for consoles, especially the older generation consoles, which makes ourselves more difficult.”
Iwiński said that with the many breakdowns and crashes experienced by developers competing for players, CD Projekt’s plan to release free downloadable content (DLC) to accompany the main game will be delayed.
CD Projekt co-founder said: “We decided to focus on the most important fixes and updates first, and then release the DLC.”
He added that the game versions of Sony and Microsoft’s next-generation consoles will be released in the second half of the year. Gamers can currently only play the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Cyberpunk on the new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X systems.
On Thursday morning, CD Projekt stock rose 2%. Since “Cyberpunk” was released on December 10, the game maker’s stock price has fallen by about 38%.
Iveski said: “We take the whole situation very seriously and are working hard to make it right.” “Our company’s guiding principles are still at the core of our work, and we still want to make great games and make them public with your players. communicate with.”
In addition to the controversy over the failure of cyberpunk release, CD Projekt also faces accusations of “tightening culture”, which is a common problem in the game industry, and developers need to work long hours to complete games in time. Cyberpunk was delayed three times before its release.
CD Projekt Red: “Your team is working hard to provide related patches for the game without any mandatory overtime.” said in a news update on Wednesday. “Avoiding tightening of all our future projects is one of our top priorities.”
