The team announced on Friday that Brooklyn netball star forward Kevin Durant will stay until early this month before missing the All-Star game due to a strained left hamstring.
After a follow-up MRI examination, the Nets determined that Durant “will need an additional recovery period”
The Nets said in a statement: “Although we are confident that Durant will go all out, this extra recovery time will allow him to stay at the level of this season since returning to this season.”
Earlier this week, Nets coach Steve Nash (Steve Nash) said that he hopes Durant will return before the All-Star break.
Before the Nets defeated the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday, Nash said: “We are just trying to monitor and be cautious.” “In this regard, we must have slowed down: don’t put any pressure on him, don’t try to make it in any capacity. He flinched, just to make sure that we give him the right time so that he will not be cured. Be strong and able to return to the team.”
The NBA announced on Friday that Durant will be replaced by Indiana Pacers forward Domantas Sabonis in the All-Star Game.
It is unclear whether Durant, although he did not participate in the game, will be appointed as the captain of the All-Star Game whether he will still be responsible for selecting players for one of the teams. Since the league changed the format from East to West to two captains who chose their respective teams, this is the first time that captains have been unable to participate in the game.
Durant has missed nine of the past 10 games-three of which are due to the NBA’s health and safety protocols. On February 5, Brooklyn was lost to the Toronto Raptors halfway through contact with a person who tested positive for the coronavirus. Durant was missed and then in the past six games in February. On the 13th, he had a hamstring cramp against the Golden State Warriors.
The Nets have won eight consecutive games-this is the NBA’s current longest winning streak-and will face the Dallas Mavericks at Brooklyn ABC on Saturday night.
After playing Dallas, the Nets still have two games before the break: March 1 in San Antonio against the Spurs, and March 3 in Houston against James Harden’s old team Rockets.
Durant is 32 years old and has averaged 29 points, 5.3 assists and 7.3 rebounds this season.
