Police in the northwestern city of Chester said Wednesday that they had charged a nurse with eight counts of murder and ten counts of attempted murder of an infant in a local hospital.
Cheshire Police said in a statement that a 30-year-old man named Lucy Letby was arrested on Tuesday and charged by the prosecutor once the prosecutor approved the crime.
They added that the allegations involved “many infant deaths and non-fatal collapses in the neonatal department of the Countess of Chester Hospital between June 2015 and June 2016.”
Letby will be detained before his first appearance in the nearby District Court in Warrington on Thursday.
