Blue Origin will test an upgraded version of the capsule during a suborbital space flight in western Texas on Thursday to verify the new environmental control system, in-cabin display, and passenger communication system. Then Jeff Bezos (Jeff Bezos)̵
The company said the test launch is scheduled for Thursday at 11:57 am Eastern Time (10:57 am Central Standard Time; 1657 GMT) from Blue Origin’s private launch site in Germany east of El Paso, Texas. North of Van Horn, Texas.
Blue Origin said it plans to provide a real-time webcast of the mission, which will be available at the top of this page.
A single-stage New Shepard booster powered by a hydrogen-fueled BE-3 engine will be launched from West Texas and is expected to propel it to an altitude space above 62 miles (or 100 kilometers) above the internationally recognized border.
When the two aircraft taxi to the highest altitude, the spacecraft will separate from the rocket and then begin to descend back to Earth.
The reusable New Shepard rocket will deploy airlocks at Blue Origin’s commercial spaceport and reignite the engine to land vertically, while the capsule will release its parachute and briefly launch its own braking rocket to ease its impact on the nearby desert landscape Landing.
Assuming it follows the flight plan of Blue Origin’s previous test launch, the entire mission will last approximately 10 minutes from lift-off to capsule landing.
This will be the 14th flight of the new Shepard suborbital rocket and space capsule since 2015, but it is expected that Thursday’s test flight will launch for the first time a new type of spacecraft with all the equipment needed to carry people.
In a statement issued before the launch, Blue Origin did not confirm that it would fly a brand new capsule on Thursday, but sources said this was the plan. The new space capsule is named “RSS First Step”, and RSS stands for reusable spacecraft.
Blue Origin said in a statement: “For this mission, when the program approaches manned spaceflight, the space capsule will be equipped with an upgraded experience for astronauts,” the upgrade includes improvements to environmental functions, such as the cabin acoustics. And temperature adjustment, flight crew display panel and speaker with microphone and push-to-talk button on each seat.
“The mission will also test the communication and security alert systems of many astronauts. The space capsule will be equipped with six seats, one of which will be occupied by a “model Skywalker.” Human Blue Origin has flown in past launches.
Blue Origin has also sent more than 50,000 postcards from students around the world, which have been submitted to space through Blue Origin’s non-profit Club for the Future. Some of these postcards will fly into the pockets of “model Skywalker” and will be returned to students after flying in space.
Founded in 2000 by Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos, Blue Origin is in the final stages of testing the suborbital New Shepard booster and space capsule , And then allow people to drive the rocket into space.
The compensation paid to space tourists and commercial and government researchers may be passengers on future New Shepard flights, which will provide customers with three to four minutes of microgravity as the capsule reaches the apex or the highest point of the ballistic. Past New Shepard (New Shepard) test missions have been conducted for NASA and universities.
Blue Origin, together with aerospace contractors Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and Draper, lead a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Artemis program to develop a human-rated lunar landing Company team. Industrial teams led by Dynetics and SpaceX are also competing for NASA contracts to build a human-rated lunar lander.
The company is also developing a giant orbital-class rocket called “New Glen”, which will launch a large satellite from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.
