Belkin’s Boost Charge Pro with MagSafe and Apple’s MagSafe Duo chargers use very different methods to solve similar problems. In a world where everything must be charged, a combined charger that can reduce the number of cables and plugs in life is very practical. Apple’s first-party combination charger is described as a simple travel charger, and Belkin ace is the best MagSafe combination charger.
The best MagSafe charger for Boost Charge Pro?
The Belkin Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 wireless charger with MagSafe (namely the full product name) turns one socket into three wireless charging stations. Although this is done on the combined charging stand, the innovation of this product is the use of Apple̵
Apple has built-in magnets in the iPhone 12 series of mobile phones. This system called MagSafe can be charged wirelessly with a power of up to 15W. When used with an iPhone, the maximum output power of a standard Qi charger is 7.5W. The secret of MagSafe is that magnetism ensures precise alignment between the wireless charging coils. Like Belkin Boost Charge Pro, MagSafe is also a practical solution for creating “hover” brackets.
So what can Boost Boost Pro start?
- MagSafe (top left): iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro or iPhone 12 Pro Max (or higher)
- Magnetic charger (top right): any Apple Watch
- Dock (bottom): any Qi-based wireless charging compatible accessories, including AirPods, iPhone 8 and iPhone X and higher
I found that the charging base is very suitable for powering AirPods Pro or AirPods through the wireless charging box. The charging station base is very suitable for charging other devices (such as iPhone or Android phones) through wireless charging. There is a small mark on the base to mark the wireless charging point, but small devices of various shapes and sizes are compatible.
Although I think many people will use Boost Charge Pro as a bedside table charger, the “hover” design on the side of MagSafe also makes the charging station a good kitchen accessory. The iPhone 12 is magnetically attached to the MagSafe charger and can be used in portrait or landscape orientation. The slightly slanted rear corner is perfect for charging iPhone while using FaceTime and dinner.
The retail price of Belkin Boost Charge Pro is $149.99, and a power brick is included in the box.
I am enthusiastic about any new Apple product for the next product, but it is no secret that Apple’s MagSafe Duo accessories are overpriced and ambitious. When I am a MagSafe Duo customer, I better describe the accessory as a luxury travel charger.
Apple’s wireless charger combination is half the iPhone 12 charger and half the Apple Watch charger. Although the iPhone must be charged flat on the surface, the Apple Watch charging dock can be placed flat or upright to easily charge open or closed watches.
MagSafe Duo includes a Lightning port and includes a UBS-C to Lightning cable to power the combo charger, but to use MagSafe Duo, a 20-watt USB-C power adapter (sold separately) is required. Apple bundles a similar charger with the iPhone 11 Pro, but this year no longer includes the power adapter for the iPhone.
Form over function
There is no third charging pad, but you can use the other half of MagSafe to charge any wireless charging accessories including AirPods and older iPhones-not while charging the iPhone 12. Half of AppleWatch can only charge Apple Watch. If you really want to power up your Lightning port-based device, you can unplug the USB-C to Lightning cable and charge it directly on the wall.
Although I prefer the simple design of MagSafe Duo, the utility does not use it as the main charging station for my iPhone and Apple Watch. It has a much smaller footprint and folds up like a book for easy portability, but there is no benefit to wirelessly charging it when using the iPhone-even Apple’s standard MagSafe charger can do this.
The retail price of MagSafe Duo is US$129, and it is not equipped with the required 20W USB-C power adapter for US$19.
Car vent installation professional version
Belkin not only designed a combined charging station when using MagSafe this year. Belkin’s Car Vent Mount Pro with MagSafe also takes advantage of the new magnet system included in the iPhone 12 series of phones.
9to5Mac We will take a closer look at this accessory in the near future, but after testing, here are some short thoughts of mine:
- MagSafe makes it very easy to install any size iPhone 12 without adjusting the squeeze mechanism to fix the device
- Since there is no “arm” for holding the iPhone, you can tap the touch target on both sides of the display. It can be difficult to use a non-MagSafe mount
- Car Vent Mount Pro uses MagSafe to hold your phone, but the lack of pass-through charging is disappointing. After installation, a lightning cable must be connected to charge the phone
Finally, for me, the most boring part of cool products in general is how they are installed. As the name suggests, Car Vent Mount Pro relies on the ventilation system connected to the car to hold it in place.
The manual recommends using the top of the ventilation hole instead of the blade of the ventilation hole, because the handle needs to be fixed in place, but the top of the ventilation hole of my 2017 Honda Civic (a very ordinary car) is too thick to fix the clip. At the risk of damaging the vent blades, I fixed the clip to the part to be avoided in the manual.
It works normally, and if you run the air conditioner, the iPhone will become cool, but I think if you need to run heat, the situation is the opposite. Of course, this is true for all vent mounts. My car has a built-in CarPlay screen, so this is actually not the product I need. However, before owning CarPlay, I found myself admiring the convenience of MagSafe. Despite its shortcomings, I still like this product.
Improve the experience
If future versions manage to incorporate the pass-through charging function of the Lightning cable, my suggestion is wholeheartedly. This feature alone is more worthy of the “Pro” nickname in the product name, and perhaps it can join the ranks of the best MagSafe chargers.
For now, I do have a surprise use case for Car Vent Mount Pro. After testing Belkin’s seat frame in a car for a few days (when I accidentally hit the roadside, the iPhone only dropped to the floor once), I moved the Car Vent Mount Pro to my desk and now it can double as iPhone props. The side of the clip can be adjusted to support any orientation, making it perfect for lifting iPhone 12 while watching a video or making a video call-remember that it will not charge the phone.
The retail price of the Belkin vehicle exhaust bracket with MagSafe is $39.95.
