A doctor said that on Saturday, ten newborns were killed in a fire in a hospital in Maharashtra, India’s wealthiest state. Leading politicians expressed grief over the deaths.
“The fire broke out at 2 o’clock in the morning today,” said Pramod Khandate, a surgeon at the General Hospital in Bandara District in the west. Khandate told Reuters partner ANI that 7 of the 17 children in the critically ill newborn care unit were rescued.
Chief Minister Uddhav Thakre of Maharashtra ordered an investigation into the incident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi (Narendra Modi) said on Twitter: “In Bandara, Maharashtra, a heart-wrenching tragedy has cost us precious young lives. “I miss and All bereaved families are together. I hope the injured can recover soon. “
Many other political figures, including opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, also expressed their sadness.
