ASUS and ACER will soon launch the highest-end gaming laptops based on AMD Ryzen 5000H’Zen 3’CPU and NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs (including the flagship RTX 3080 mobility). These reports come from various retail listings and Chinese technology media ITMedia (via Videocardz / HXL).

We know that AMD and NVIDIA will launch their respective mobile CPU/GPU series at CES 2021. Therefore, OEM partners including ASUS & ACER will also showcase next-generation designs using this new product stack. ASUS has developed a series of laptops in its ROG series, and ACER will provide the top Nitro series with Zen 3 and Ampere actions!
ASUS ROG STRIX laptop equipped with AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX 8-core CPU and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 GPU
ASUS ROG STRIX 2021 series will use AMD CPU with the same height as Ryzen 9 5900HX. There will also be laptops with other Ryzen 9 5900H and Ryzen 7 5800H CPUs, but this is the highest-end configuration you can use. According to the specifications, the laptop will shock the Ryzen 9 5900HX, which is the brand new Zen 3 core we saw in the desktop Ryzen 5000 series, so we can expect the single-threaded processor performance to improve.
In terms of specifications, AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX will provide 8 cores and 16 threads. The chip will have 16 MB of L3 cache and 4 MB of L2 cache. The basic clock frequency of the chip is 3.30 GHz, and the boost clock frequency is 4.70 GHz. The detailed log of the benchmark run showed that during the test, all cores reached 4.70 GHz. Other features of the chip include enhanced Vega GPU and overclocking support, which will be AMD’s first in the notebook computer field.
The graphics card will include NVIDIA’s flagship GeForce RTX 3080 mobile graphics card. The card is actually based on the GA104 GPU. Although the exact configuration is unclear, we know that the chip will have up to 16 GB of GDDR6 memory, while the standard configuration will use 8 GB of GDDR6 memory. ROG STRIX laptops can also be equipped with RTX 3060 and 3070 GPUs. There is also a list of other specifications, such as up to 32 GB of DDR4 memory and 1 TB of storage (SSD).
ASUS ROG STRIX laptops equipped with AMD CPUs and NVIDIA GPUs will be available in 15-inch and 17-inch versions, with a screen resolution of up to 1440p and a refresh rate of 165 Hz. The addition of the RTX 3080 caliber GPU will mean that there will be no problems running the game at the above resolution. Asus will also use the 10th-generation Comet Lake-H CPU in Intel and NVIDIA configurations to launch the same notebook, and Tiger Lake-H is expected to be updated around mid-2021. Quite a long time, because Intel will still rely on its earlier 14nm architecture to compete with AMD’s second-generation 7nm CPU, and lack the same performance efficiency.
ACER Nitro 5 laptop equipped with AMD Ryzen 7 5800H 8-core CPU and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 GPU
Turning to the ACER Nitro series, ACER Nitro 5 was recently launched by a German retailer for 1950 Euros. Configuration includes AMD Ryzen 7 5800H CPU, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 discrete graphics, 32 GB DDR4 memory and 1 TB SSD storage. The laptop will get 8 GB RTX 3080.
Other specifications listed include a 180W power supply, which may indicate that this particular model is running the NVIDIA Max-Q configuration instead of Max-P, which provides a higher clock and thus higher performance. This is because the basic TDP of only the CPU is 45W, while the TDP of the graphics chip is about 100-120W.
