MOSCOW — After weeks of fighting between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the disputed mountainous area of ​​Nagorno-Karabakh, the Armenians almost stopped seeking any help from their ally Russia.

According to a mutual defense treaty known as the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) (Russia is equivalent to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization), Moscow promised to send troops to defend member states such as Armenia if the troops are attacked. However, the Armenians did not hold their breath, despite the rising death toll, and Azerbaijan has developed in highly competitive regions due to its outstanding drone capabilities.
