A notorious Apple rumor site has added weight to the theory that the company plans to release a new iPhone SE later this year.
Following a registration request last month that suggested a new version of the cheaper iPhone model, Mac Otakara dismissed the prospect of a launch in September and said Apple is considering appointments for the handset in the third quarter.
Mac Otakara is said to have a good track record with Apple rumors, but it's not always accurate.
The Japanese website states that the iPhone SE could capture some of the best parts of the iPhone X, suggesting that it could offer Face ID, a TrueDepth camera and a minimal frame or trim – meaning more screen ,
In a review of the iPhone X, Business Insider's Steve Kovach said Face ID works "flawlessly" and the phone follows other manufacturers by stuffing "as much screen as possible on the front of the phone".
The iPhone SE is overdue after its first launch in March 2016. It is a popular model that leads customer satisfaction surveys and became the best-selling smartphone in the UK in the year of its launch, strong in emerging markets such as India.
