Dear Mr. Bezos:
We wrote articles about Amazon’s recent political censorship activities, especially by conservative scholar Ryan Anderson (Ryan Anderson) who deleted the book “The Decision When Harry Became Sally” from Amazon.com, Kindle and Audible. In the past 72 hours, Amazon was unable to provide a sufficient explanation for how Anderson’s book reached the top two best sellers on Amazon’s bestseller list before its release in 2018, which is said to violate the vague, unclear “order”. Disgusting content”’standard.
When Harry Became and Sally prompted important discussions between the national media and policymakers in 201
The Internet is an open market of ideas that allows people to gather together, learn from each other, learn from each other, and engage in a series of business activities, so as to achieve the best state. To meet their basic needs, many Americans rely on online retail more than ever, especially considering the COVID-19 pandemic. When Amazon decided to delete Mr. Anderson’s book from the platform, it had publicly stated to conservative Americans that their views were unpopular on the platform. Amazon’s in-depth research and deliberate short-sighted censorship of modern American discourse is not only a decision of poor taste, but also an attack on freedom of speech, which will have a major impact on the future of open discourse in the digital age.
When deciding to remove Mr. Anderson’s book from the platform, Amazon ignored this responsibility and publicly stated to conservative Americans that their views were not welcome on the platform. We request answers to the following questions and supporting documents, including communication with other technology companies and members of the Biden administration, to clarify the following questions to clarify the intent and extent of Amazon’s actions to censor speech:
Before Harry became Harry Became Sally’s first release, did Amazon have any discussions about your community standards in 2018? If so, please provide documentation explaining why the book is allowed on the platform.
After hosting a book for more than three years, what was the motivation behind Amazon’s decision to delete access to this book? Is this action part of a broad campaign against conservative materials and voices on the Amazon platform?
Does this book violate Amazon’s policy? If so, please provide documentation related to the policy, which paragraphs Amazon identifies as “objectionable content” and the step-by-step process for determining the deletion of the book. Has the policy been changed since 2018? If so, please provide the documentation that caused the change and how to notify the publisher and seller of the change.
Is it the author or publisher of the book, or is it an advance warning that the book has been removed from the Amazon platform? Did they provide them with a reason for deletion or recourse?
Amazon Web Services hosts countless websites related to religion, political conservativeness, classical freedom, and other content that are beyond the scope of acceptable awakening group thinking. Are these websites at risk of being refused service by Amazon? How do you determine which site you want to host compare to the hosting site of which books you want to remove from the Amazon platform?
We hope to reply before March 9, 2021. Thank you for your attention to this critical issue.
