Amazon takes education to a deeper level with a new learning platform designed to help Indian students enter the prestigious engineering college.
The so-called Amazon Academy announced on Wednesday will be available through a new Android app and website. It is designed to help students prepare for the Joint Entrance Exam, which is an assessment for entering certain engineering colleges in India.
Amazon said that Amazon Academy will provide selected learning materials, live lectures and assessments in mathematics, physics and chemistry. The platform will also provide real-time simulation tests designed to simulate the JEE exam experience.
Amazon India Education Director Amol Gurwara (Amol Gurwara) said in a statement: “The goal of Amazon Academy is to start with those preparing for engineering entrance exams and provide everyone with high quality and affordable prices. Education.”
“Our mission is to help students achieve their goals while also empowering educators and content partners with millions of students. Our main focus is content quality, deep learning analysis and student experience. This release It will help those who have aspirations to prepare and succeed in the JEE advantage.”
Amazon said that the content is currently free and “will continue to be used in the next few months,” indicating that it will eventually start charging students.
Amazon has many other education platforms and programs, including AWS Educate, which aims to help people master Amazon’s cloud platform Amazon Web Services. There is also Amazon Ignite, which connects educational content creators with Amazon customers and helps them sell things like lesson plans and classroom games in the form of digital downloads.
American technology giants Google and Apple both have their own educational products. For example, Google for Education offers customizable versions of several Google products, and Apple offers discounts for students and teachers on its hardware.
Amazon in India
With a domestic population of more than 1.3 billion, India is a huge market. In the past few years, Amazon has been expanding its business in the country. Compared with neighboring China and Western countries, Amazon still has a relatively new e-commerce market.
The report shows that Amazon currently employs more than 65,000 employees in the country, although Amazon declined to comment when CNBC tried to confirm this number. In May of last year, Amazon stated that it needed to hire another 50,000 temporary workers in India to meet Covid’s needs.
The Seattle-based tech giant opened a new office in Hyderabad in December 2019, which can accommodate more than 15,000 workers. This is reportedly the company’s largest single building in the world.
Amazon’s online career portal shows that the company is looking for software development engineers and front-end engineers from India to work on Amazon Pay, an online payment processing service owned by Amazon.
A job advertisement reads: “We are looking for senior engineers to build a payment platform to provide our millions of customers with a new payment mechanism and realize a’cash to digital’ economy.”
It continued: “The bold vision of Amazon India Payments is to become the most trusted and widely accepted Amazon internal and external payment solution for online and offline transactions. To achieve this vision, Amazon India is systematically investing in regional Innovative payment experience for local products, payment processing, innovative payment tools and merchant solutions.”
