According to the Associated Press, Major League Baseball is the latest entity to suspend political donations due to the deadly invasion of the US Capitol by rebels loyal to President Donald Trump last week. Major League Baseball is suspending political contributions from the league’s political action committee.

The alliance issued the following statement to the Associated Press on Wednesday:

The league said in a statement to the Associated Press on Wednesday: “In light of the unprecedented incident that took place in the U.S. Capitol last week, Major League Baseball is suspending its political action committee contributions to wait for our future political contributions Policy review.”

Since the riots last week, several companies have suspended members of Congress who voted to overthrow President-elect Joe Biden’s contribution to victory. Major League Baseball is one of the organizations that suspended political donations.

Major League Baseball regularly donates to candidates on both sides of the aisle as part of its long-term lobbying strategy. In 2018, Major League Baseball successfully lobbied Congress to pass the “Save America Pastime Act”, allowing teams to pay less than the minimum wage for minor leagues. Political donation records show that since 2016, Major League Baseball has donated more than $660,000 to candidates.

Individuals including team owners will still be allowed to make political donations.
