PROVO — After passing the toughest 2020 season test to date, BYU Football maintained its position among the top teams in the United States on Sunday morning.
The Cougars rose two places in the latest edition of the “USA Today Coach” poll, tied for 11th place, and moved up two places to 12th place in the latest AP Top 25. This makes the Cougars follow Miami (Fla.), and since the Tar Heels (Tar Heels) lost to Florida (Florida State) for the first time in the coaching survey, second only to North Carolina.
Since climbing to No. 7 in 2009 and then ranking No. 12 in the country, APU’s poll rankings are still the highest.
BYU also ranks sixth in Jeff Sagarin̵
It’s no surprise that BYU beat Houston 43-26 on Friday night to be among the top 15 in the nation. The Cougars beat their opponents 5-0 for the first time since 2008, and are one of at least 10 undefeated games this season, playing at least 3 games.
Others on the list also include the highest-ranked Clemson, which ranked Georgia Institute of Technology 73-7 on Saturday; Alabama (ASEC) of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in three rounds Defeat Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett, defeating the Bulldogs 41-24. The Carolina Coast of the Sun Belts 4-0 won the first ever match by defeating the 21st Louisiana State 30-27 against the second-ranked opponent using FBS procedures; and the Statue of Liberty (Fiber Independent) , Also an independent member of FBS, he passed the ACC plan Syracuse (Syracuse) with a score of 38-21 in the load dome on Saturday. This is the first time since the flame became the FCS Great Southern Project in 2008 to increase to 5 -0.
Clemson, Alabama, Notre Dame, Georgia, and Ohio State are among the top five in the Associated Press poll. After losing to Alabama on Saturday, the Bulldogs (3-1) became the highest ranked first-loss team. For the first time since the Associated Press allowed the team to vote for the Pac-12 school, which has not yet started the season, the Cougars have jumped to No. 13 in Oregon.
Utah received 36 votes and ranked 9th in the top 25, second only to the undefeated Statue of Liberty.
It can be said that the hardest test was carried out behind them-even before the road trip to Boise State on November 7th, it may be the hardest game-BYU’s main focus now is still to maintain the current progress. Before the date with the Broncos, the Cougars played against Texas State University on Saturday and had their first duel with Western Kentucky University on Halloween night.
How do they keep their attention to the Bobcats? The Bobcats were only 1-5 after a 30-20 loss in Southern Alabama, a rival in the Sun Belt Division, while the Hilltops fell to 1-4 after being hit by UAB 37-14. BYU’s successor, Dax Milne, gained some insight after beating Houston.
Milne said: “It’s fun to win every week.” “We celebrate it all weekend, talk about it on Monday, and after that, it’s over. We know we’re a great team, and if we reduce our mistakes At the smallest possible, we can play with anyone.”
If BYU stays focused, it should have a 7-0 record in Blue Turf. That will be the start of the 2008 6-0 game, when Max Hall and Cougars lost their fists in the 32-7 blowout of the 9th TCU this season. BYU ended the game 10-3 that season, causing losses to rival Utah in Las Vegas, and also to Arizona in Arizona. This marked the Cougars’ 6 times in the history of the plan. -0 became the norm in the opening.
Of course, one of the finishes is better than the others:
- 2001: After starting 12-0 and rising to 9th in the Associated Press poll, BYU lost 72-45 in Hawaii and was in the Liberty Bowl in Gary Crowton’s first year as head coach China lost to Louisville 28-10. The Cougars finished 25th in the AP ranking this season.
- 1984: Under the best circumstances, BYU achieved a 13-0 record, including an 8-0 record at the Western Athletic Conference, and ranked first in the AP and coach’s vacation to beat Michigan State 24-17. The only national championship in the program.
- 1981: BYU finished 11-2 in WAC with a score of 7-1, then beat Washington State 20th with a 38-36 advantage in the Holiday Cup. The Cougars finished 13th in the Associated Press and the coach got 11th.
- 1979: BYU achieved an 11-0 record in the regular season, including a 7-0 record in the WAC game, and then a 38-37 loss to Indiana in the 9th place in the Holiday Bowl. The Cougars are ranked 13th in the Associated Press this season and 12th in coach.
At least statistically, this BYU team ranks among the more complete teams in the country. The Cougars are at least statistically among the most complete teams in the country. BYU ranks sixth in total offense, averaging 541.0 yards per game, scoring 43.6 points, outside the top ten in total defense, averaging 288.0 yards per game
Personally, quarterback Zach Wilson’s star shines-even hailed as a potential NFL draft pick. The juniors who competed in Corner Canyon ranked No. 1 in the U.S. with 1,641 passing yards, and No. 4 out of 5 touchdowns, averaging 348.2 yards per game. Before Saturday’s game, he also ranked second in the country with 110 points.
If the Cougars continue to play as before, he will also see more scores.
