A 5.5 magnitude earthquake hit Nevada on Friday morning

The earthquake hit more than 20 miles southeast of Mina, and aftershocks occurred nearby. Mina is located about 160 miles southeast of Reno.

Nevada has the largest magnitude 6.5 earthquake in the past 66 years
Earlier this year, Nevada experienced the largest earthquake in 66 years, when a 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck a remote area about 225 miles northwest of Las Vegas.

Graham Kent, director of the Nevada Earthquake Laboratory, said at the time: “In the Reno-Tahoe area and the San Joaquin and Sacramento Valleys in California, a strong May earthquake was felt.”

He added that this is the first major change the state has experienced since 1954.

This is a developing story, please check for updates.
