CANBERRA, Australia ̵
The bodies of three adults and four children and two guns were found on a property in the village of Osmington, West-Oregon State Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said.
Police have no information raising concerns regarding general public safety. The police were taken to the property by dawn before dawn, Dawson said.
"This devastating tragedy will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the families affected, the entire community and especially on the local communities in our southwest." Dawson told reporters.
The police tried to contact the relatives of the victims, Dawson said.
This could be the worst mass shooting in Australia since a lone gunman killed 35 people in Tasmania in 1996
Australia's gun laws are widely praised as a success, and supporters like former President Barack Obama say that Australia has not had any single mass shootings had more.
The universally accepted definition of mass shooting – four deaths without the shooter in a single event – has since only been struck once in Australia. In 2014, a farmer shot and killed his wife and three children before killing himself.
The police have uncovered some details about the recent murders, and it is not clear if there were more than one shooter.
