With a late ice run on some northern lakes, anglers have preferred to raise a large cath.
The annual Minnesota Governor's Fishing Opener took place in the central part of the state on Green Lake in Spicer, Minnesota.
Every year it is in a different location and shows a local community as a hotspot for tourism.
"We had a great time," said Gov Dayton, "I caught three bass, which made my whole day make my last Angel Opener special."
