The Cavaliers entered the Saturday night game at Wells Fargo Center with a record of 12-21 and nine players.
Although the 76ers should have sent the Cavaliers on paper, they found themselves down 13 points in the second quarter. They overcame the deficit in the second half, but could never get rid of Cleveland.
Joel Embiid (Joel Embiid) missed a jumper when the 76ers were finally regulated, making the game extra time.
Embiid said: “…that is my lens, I have been working hard. Unfortunately, I missed it. What is it? You go ahead and learn from it. Next time I have a chance, I will be sure of me Will do it.”
Cleveland scored the first five points of the extra game and defeated the 76ers 76 to 1
Embiid led the team with 42 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists. Ben Simmons scored 24 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds on 11-of-17 shooting.
The 76ers will play the Pacers in their penultimate game on Monday before the All-Star break. Here are the observations of Saturday’s loss:
Furkan Korkmaz started to replace Tobias Harris, who was out with a contusion of his right knee. Obviously, the 76ers have no real third scoring option, because Embiid and Simmons combined scored 33 points in the first half of the 76ers’ first half, and shot 11 of 20 from the field. Their teammates scored 4 of 16 goals. Seth Curry has never discovered his shooting technique, and 12 of his 13 turnovers in the game were missing.
When asked if he was worried about Curry, the head coach Doc Rivers said: “Not true. I just think the shooters shoot and they go through a short stretch. Since he came back from COVID, I don’t think he has Very stable. I heard that other players are also coming in and out like this… They told us to continue playing with him, and this is what we are doing.”
The 76ers cannot rely on Harris to stand on a smaller forward or pass the ball to him in a favorable pick-and-roll situation, but rely on their two All-Star players. This is one of the many reasons why the team hopes Harris will be allowed to return as soon as possible.
Danny Green said: “It was almost 20 and 10. You will miss him, especially another outside shooter, another scorer, another man who can free throws, a big man who can defend a little and rebound. Today We are out of bounds tonight. We will definitely miss him tonight and hope he will come back soon. No matter who we are on the floor, who is healthy or injured, we must go out for 48 minutes. There is no excuse. We must find a way to win. .”
Mike Scott seized Korkmaz’s position to open the second half and performed well, scoring 5 points from three-pointers, providing greater stability to the defense. Tyrese Maxey re-entered the rotation at the end of the third quarter, and Rivers tried to buy some rest for Simmons and Embiid before the critical juncture.
Rivers said: “As long as it is someone with speed or pace, or someone who can work hard, I think he did it. I think he is very good. You can see that he has not participated in the competition. Although he did. Some things, but this is just one of those games you are searching for. I think Mike Scott gave us a big improvement in the third quarter. His airtime is limited, so we spent all of his time. Unfortunately, I think he will help us too.”
With Korkmaz hitting all three free throws at the free throw line and the 76ers trailed by one point with 6.6 seconds left in the third quarter, the team looked likely to enter the lead. However, Kokmaz missed two of his three-point foul shots, and Colin Sexton (Colin Sexton) (11 of 27 shots scored 28 points) converted his last turnover Score for a layup. Shocking Milton (11 points, 6 rebounds) ended the game against Korkmaz.
This area cannot solve all problems
At the beginning of the second period, the 76ers turned to an area, with Simmons and Matisse Table leading. Cleveland responded by using its own zone, which means that NBA games rarely have zone-to-zone minute games.
During this time, neither team gained a meaningful advantage. Sieppur had great times on both ends of the floor, including a steal that resulted in Simmons’s dunk and a right-wing three-pointer.
Despite this, the Cavaliers were able to find weaknesses in the area several times, and the 76ers’ offense could not consistently manage open shots.
The Cavaliers have achieved a lot of success in the early transition, getting 15 quick breakthrough points in the first 15 minutes, and the 76ers’ sloppyness will undoubtedly not help their career. Overall, the 76ers lacked vitality and sharpness in the first half. Rivers suspended the game with 5:58 left in the second quarter, and his team dropped 13 points because the 76ers started another possession that seemed to have no clear goal.
The zone is still a wise tempo choice for the team, but in some cases, such as against the Pacers on January 31, the zone drastically changed the momentum of the game and triggered the 76ers.
Embiid is back on track
Although Embiid missed the 76ers’ first round jumper, it is obvious that throwing the ball to him is the team’s best choice to create a good offense.
Rivers pointed out after Thursday’s game that he doesn’t want Embiid to actively try to make fouls, but given Embiid’s knack, people can understand why it is tempting to do so. It is no easy task to deal with his size and skills legally, and he is good at making use of this fact.
The All-Star big man made 14 of 16 shots from the foul line. This is his 10th consecutive game with 10 or more free throws. When Embiid entered Saturday, he had only shot 26.4% in the past three games, but he seemed to be one of the best players in the NBA.
The Cavaliers teamed up with Embiid more frequently in the second half, adopting a common strategy and asking the other 76ers to beat them. Embiid is generally passing to the open people and providing power through contact to strike a balance when possible.
Embiid said: “I think, especially in the fourth quarter and overtime, my performance gave us a lot of impressions. Whether it’s me or I kicked the ball, and (teammates) waved the ball, we are all for it. Scored a lot. On the other side, it was difficult to do. For another team, defense became easier. Now, you have a perimeter threat like Tobias, you can serve him, make pick-and-rolls, and shoot. Also send it to him. I think that’s where we missed him so much in the half-court offense.”
Simmons continues to serve as the scorer, which is another positive gain for the 76ers. Cleveland doesn’t have the right people to deal with him, especially on the night when the team is under-staffed and Simmons is good at attacking. His right jump hook seemed to make him comfortable, a shot he trained with assistant coach Sam Cassell in a typical pre-match routine. Suitable runners and drifters have now become a regular part of his arsenal.
In the past season, Simmons usually cares most about passing the ball from the guard box and scanning the floor for a cutter. In the end, Rivers and the 76ers believed that he could become a true multi-faceted low post threat.
Simmons’s seven turnovers are his biggest shortcoming. In the 76ers’ two losses to Cleveland this season, he turned the ball 13 times.
