Authorities said Saturday that a 14-year-old girl was accused of killing a grandmother in the suburbs of Detroit.
The Wayne County Attorney’s Office said in a statement that because the girl is underage and has no name, the girl faces charges of first- and second-degree murder.
The prosecutor said she fatally stabbed her grandmother, 65-year-old Cynthia Mosby (Cynthia Mosby), located in the town of Canton, and fled to the Southgate Motel about 20 miles away.
The office said: “She allegedly planned a criminal activity, and on February 21, 2021, the defendant assassinated her grandmother with a kitchen knife several times.”
The prosecutor said that Mosby had detained the teenager. They said her body was discovered by her son’s son on Monday. The girl is not there.
The office said: “The officials were taken to a bedroom in their home, where they saw the victim’s inanimate body lying face down on the floor with multiple stab wounds.”
The suspect’s lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The prosecutor said that the girl was not charged as an adult, but she would be “designated as an adult”, which would allow the judge to sentence her to be an adult, a teenager or an intermediary.
Wayne County Attorney Keim Worthy said in a statement: “In this case, the 14-year-old girl was designated as an adult because after conviction, the judge has the greatest flexibility to choose during sentencing. Provide rehabilitation options for this very troubled youth.”
The girl’s mental health and ability to understand the allegations will be checked.
Worthy said: “Ms. Mosby is a nurse raising her granddaughter.” “We pray to her son and family.”
