This year marks the first Macs to use Apple’s own chips instead of Intel chips. As our reviews of the M1 MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro and Mac mini proved, these machines are powerful and provide excellent fast performance. This is especially true for apps designed to run on this machine and take full advantage of Apple’s latest technology.
Therefore, in this regard, this year’s Mac application list will focus on certain software optimized for this new Apple hardware era. If you are using an Intel machine, the choices made last year are still as important and useful as they are today. However, if you have the ability (or the ability to give yourself) these new Speed-demon Macs, then these are some good ways to sample their capabilities.
We have compiled a summary of our favorite and most used games, applications and entertainment.Check out our selection of apps iPhone mobile phone, Android phone, Windows PCwith Mac with M1
Pixelmator Pro is one of the best image editing applications on the Mac. It has the usual RAW editing toolset, presets, complex layer editing and photo filters, and can easily control every detail of the image. What makes Pixelmator Pro unique is that it can be adjusted automatically through a machine learning algorithm, which has been trained on more than 20 million photos. The latest update also allows for greater customizability on the interface, allowing you to place everything in the position that best suits your workflow. In this world, many creative applications require subscriptions. I really appreciate the one-time price of $19.99 for all the features provided by this application.
Pixelmator Pro’s iPad app ($4.99) is also great-especially if you like to retouch things with Apple Pencil, this is how I edit many of my review photos.
Lightroom is the first of Adobe’s most popular applications, optimized for Apple’s M1 chip. For many people, this is the default choice for editing and organizing photo collections. Now that the app has been updated, you can take advantage of the features of Apple’s M1 chip to make editing faster.
Remember, this is the regular version of Lightroom. Lightroom Classic cannot run natively on M1, but Adobe stated that there are no known issues with Rosetta 2 translation. In my experience, Lightroom Classic feels very similar to its performance on Intel Macs.
The native M1 version of Photoshop is scheduled to launch sometime next year, but Adobe has not yet given a release schedule for other applications (such as Premiere Pro).
Google Chrome and Firefox
The two main browsers, Chrome and Firefox, have been updated to run locally on the M1 Mac, so you will not encounter any problems or performance degradation when using these two browsers. For Chrome, just make sure to select “Mac with Apple chip” when downloading, otherwise the Intel version will eventually be installed, which will still run, but it is not efficient.
Microsoft Edge currently provides M1 support in its Beta channel, so the distance between the two should not be too far.
If Apple’s built-in calendar application cannot meet your needs, then Fantastical may be the more advanced alternative you are looking for. Its natural language parser can turn ordinary sentences about your plan into perfectly formatted appointment entries. You can set the calendar view the way you want, and Fantastical also has widgets that can pop up in the “Today” sidebar of your Mac. There is a basic free version. The premium version starts at $4.99 per month, and it provides other features such as adding tasks, full screen view and calendar synchronization.
Microsoft has quickly updated the entire Mac suite to fully optimize M1’s Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and OneNote. Therefore, when using any of them to perform operations, you should notice that their execution speed is very fast. I’m pretty sure that many people will like these more than Apple’s own productivity apps (such as Pages and Numbers).
Tell me: The Twitter app for macOS is actually very good. In order to solve this problem, some improvements and bug fixes are needed, but Twitter for Mac is now fully functional, responsive, and not as easy to crash as before. If you haven’t given Twitter’s native application a chance, now is a good time.
If you still prefer third-party applications, Tweetbot is still the first choice, it is also versatile and supports M1.
iMazing is an excellent device administrator who can delve into everything on the iPhone or iPad. You can create a backup (different from a regular Apple backup) and get messages, photos, music, etc. directly on the device.
However, shortly after the launch of M1 Macs, it was also discovered that the software could be used to “side-load” and install iPhone applications (even if not yet opted in) to macOS. If you are trying to do this, please expect that not all features will work perfectly.
iMazing also recently added this option to clearly see which applications on the system are generic or developed for Intel.
If the menu bar at the top of the Mac screen is messy, Bartender can help you organize your orders. This app is our long-time favorite macOS utility, and it allows you to hide everything neatly under a menu bar icon to ease the confusion. You can also set up triggers so that certain icons are only displayed when they are most meaningful.
Neural Hybrid Pro
Neural Mix Pro is an application that allows you to separate the various parts of a song (vocals, instruments and beats) and then listen to them separately. You can also change the speed of the song without destroying the pitch. A convenient tool for DJs and musicians, it also attracted my inner music nerd. The end result sometimes still sounds a bit staged (like most vocal cancellation software) and has some flaws, but it does a better job than other applications I have tried for this purpose. Just know that it is expensive compared to other suggestions here. You will need to pay $50 to unlock the app.
If you have a new 13-inch MacBook Pro equipped with Apple’s M1 chip, that means you also have a “love and hate” Touch Bar above the keyboard. There are many ways to customize according to your preferences in macOS settings, but BetterTouchTool is a utility that provides you with greater flexibility in the range of operations when using the touch bar, so that you can quickly click Useful shortcuts for important applications.
